Privacy

• The desktop app needs no account, and sends nothing to us. Your camera settings stay on your machine unless you upload them.
• The app does not collect your camera's serial number. It is never written into a cheat file.
• Anything you publish to the Cheats library is public the moment you upload it. There is no review step in between.
• A cheat can carry the Artist, Copyright and location recorded by your camera. Check those before you publish.
• We run no advertising and no analytics or tracking scripts.
• We never sell your information.

OlyProbe is a Windows application that talks to your camera over a USB cable, or over your home network. It reads the camera's settings and writes them back. All of that happens locally, between the app and the camera.

You do not need an account to use the app, and the app does not report your usage, your settings, or your photographs to us. It is designed to work with no internet connection at all, because a lot of photography happens where there isn't one.

A .cheat file is a small binary file describing camera settings. It lives on your disk like any other document. Nothing leaves your computer until you decide to upload it to the website.

Using the website is a separate choice from using the app. If you create an account here, we store the following:

• Your profile — the display name you choose, your country, and the identifiers needed to sign you in. Your display name is shown publicly next to anything you publish.
• Cheats you upload — the file itself, and the details describing it.
• Cameras you register — the camera models you tell us you own. We do not store camera serial numbers here.
• Camera capability records — what a given camera model can and cannot do, contributed to build a shared reference.
• Beta program signups — if you asked to join the private beta, the email address you gave us, so we can send you the invitation.

Your email address is held by our authentication provider so that you can sign in and so that we can email you about your account. It is not shown to other members.

This is the most important thing on this page, so it gets said plainly.

There is no moderation queue and no pre-publication check. Any visitor can see the cheat, its description, and the display name of the member who published it, and can download the file. Treat publishing as posting in public, because that is what it is.

If you want something taken down — your own upload, or someone else's — email us and we will remove it.

A cheat is built from one of your photographs, and cameras record more than exposure settings. Three of those recorded fields are carried through into the cheat and are visible to anyone who downloads it:

• Artist — the photographer name programmed into your camera, if you set one.
• Copyright — the copyright string programmed into your camera, if you set one.
• Location — GPS coordinates, if your camera recorded them for that shot.

Location is the one to think hardest about. A cheat made from a photograph taken at home carries the coordinates of your home.

Review these before you publish. If a cheat is already published and you would rather these were not public, email us and we will take the file down.

We use a small number of external services to run this site. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not pass it to anyone else for advertising.

When you sign in, your browser keeps a session token so that you stay signed in as you move between pages. That is what it is for, and it is the only thing of its kind we set.

There are no advertising cookies, no analytics scripts, and no third-party trackers on this site. The sign-in library itself is served from this site rather than from an external network.

We email you about your account and the beta program: acknowledging a signup, sending your invitation, and answering you when you write to us. We do not send marketing email, and there is no mailing list to be added to.

Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. To delete a published cheat, or to close your account entirely, email us and we will remove both the database record and the stored file.

Once a cheat has been public, we cannot recall copies other people have already downloaded. Removal stops further distribution from this site; it cannot undo what has already been taken.

We keep what we hold for as long as your account exists, and for as long afterwards as we need it to run the service properly.

This site is not directed at children. It carries member-published content that we do not review before publication, and it is not intended for anyone under 16.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting members will also be emailed.
