New camera users spend hours exploring lengthy manuals and deep menus to learn what the camera can do. And experienced owners who have worked out the configurations they can use to get the shots they want must rely on their memory or a notebook to retain and reapply those configurations on future shoots.

The professional-tier models from Olympus/OM SYSTEM are among the most powerful and complex cameras on the market. They feature numerous innovative controls for Advanced and Computational Photography that allow users to do many things with in-camera control configurations that used to depend on “post” workflows. The result is highly finished images straight out of the camera (SOOC). But the cameras offer very limited ability to retain and reuse those configurations and provide no way to see the settings in a given configuration all at once.

Computography Lab looks at those setting configurations like recipes that we call “cheats”. They are creative products in themselves, and the technology we have developed in our free OlyProbe Windows app enables the photographer to easily capture, review, edit, and reuse their best settings recipes. And, here on the (also free) Computography Lab community website, they can publish their best cheats. And other OlyProbe users can find and download interesting cheats and, with a few mouse clicks, configure their cameras to use them in their own shoots.

Computography Lab is a small technology developer focused on building solutions for next-generation digital photography and our success depends on what we can learn from next-gen photographers.
